Ascend Erie Indoor Rock Climbing

Cosmos' Lounge is headed to Ascend Erie to do indoor rock climbing! This day trip is open to teens grades 6–12 and includes everything you need for an epic day of climbing.

What we'll be doing

Ascend Erie is a 25,000-square-foot facility with 50-foot lead climbing, top-roping, and auto-belay walls, along with bouldering walls. Teens will get to try two different styles of climbing

• Bouldering — climbing on shorter walls (Ascend's bouldering terrain reaches 12 to 14 feet tall) without ropes or a harness. Instead, thick crash pad flooring covers the ground below, so climbers can safely drop or step down whenever they want. It's a great low-commitment way to try different routes and build confidence on the wall.

• Auto-belay climbing — climbing the taller ropes wall while clipped into a mechanical auto-belay device attached to the top of the wall. The device automatically takes up slack as the climber goes up and lowers them gently back to the ground when they let go or reach the top no partner needed to manage the rope. Gym staff walk every climber through how it works and check them off before they climb.

No experience is needed for either staff will cover the basics and safety procedures before anyone gets on the wall.

Why we're going

There's a moment on every climbing wall where you have to decide whether to reach for the next hold or climb back down. That moment deciding to keep going is exactly what this trip is about. Rock climbing pushes teens to problem-solve on the fly, manage nerves, and trust themselves and their gear under a little pressure, all in a controlled, supported environment. Every route finished, easy or hard, is proof to a teen of what they can do. That's core to Cosmos' mission: giving our teens real challenges that build genuine confidence and independence.

Departure/Return: Leaves from Cosmos' Lounge at 10:00 AM, returns in the evening around 6:00 PM

After you RSVP

Once you RSVP for this trip, you'll need to create an account with Ascend Erie to sign their waiver before we go. We'll send out the account and waiver details after we book the reservation.

Safety first

All Cosmos' Lounge staff and chaperones hold current PA child care clearances and CPR certification. Because we can't guarantee that every parent or guardian on a trip would have the same clearances, parents are not able to join this trip — this keeps things safe and consistent for every teen in the group.
